I first met Paul in February 1996 in London, just before it was announced he would be our new creative director. As soon as he started, he changed the design culture at Haymarket. His enthusiasm and drive, both for his subject and the people he worked with, was there then as it is still today. He gave all designers the opportunity to move between titles to improve their careers. After working on many redesigns with him, the latest being What Car?, I have found his instinct second to none, whatever the subject
